Canisius Varsity 4 scores weekend repeat; St. Joe’s, Nichols pile up wins

Fresh off Saturday’s victory in the Scholastic Rowing Association of American regatta in Ohio, Canisius High won the Varsity Four race Monday in the Fontana All High Regatta at the West Side Rowing Club.

The Canisius Four won in 5:28.5, beating St. Joe’s (5:30.1) by less than 2 seconds.

Nichols girls crews and St. Joe’s eights dominated the regatta.

Among the Nichols victories were triumphs in the Varsity, Junior Varsity and Novice Junior Varsity and Varsity Lightweight Fours. The Vikings also won the Mixed Eights.

The St. Joe’s Varsity Eight (Charlie Kwitchoff, Eric Seaner, Charles Pratt, August Cudek, Christopher Navarro, Michael Taraboletti, Jackson Liszewski, Eric Szafranski and Charlie Ivancic) edged a composite crew from Nichols and the WSRC, winning in 5:22.7 to 5:26.0 for the runner-up boat.

Junior Varsity and Freshman Novice eights and a Boys Novice Four also won for St. Joe’s.

Nardin Academy’s Varsity and Junior Varsity Eights won their races. The Gators varsity (Kiera Bohen, Cameryn Orlowski, Tara Finlayson, Katherine Bauer, Grace Dietrich, Julia Anthony, Julia Stoll and Mia Sinatra) won in 6:19.2 over Mount St. Mary, the West Side RC, Nichols and City Honors.
