The Western New York Flash continued their strong month of May, cruising to a 4-0 win over the Boston Breakers on Friday at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester.
The Flash now have nine goals in their past two games, both wins, and 12 for the season – a total that leads the National Women’s Soccer League. Taylor Smith opened the scoring for the Flash in the 15th minute with her first professional goal, threading a shot through the Boston defense. Lynn Williams extended the lead with two goals just a minute apart after halftime, with Abby Dahlkemper converting a penalty kick for the final goal.
Rookie goalkeeper Britt Eckerstrom recorded a clean sheet in her first professional start. The Flash played without Jaelene Hinkle and Sam Mewis, both of who are training with the U.S. women’s national team.
The Flash are off in Week Eight of the NWSL season. They return to host the Orlando Pride at 7 p.m. June 11.
