MOWATT, Marian Sanbury
MOWATT - Marian Sanbury May 23, 2016 of Amherst, NY. Born June 25, 1922 in Busti, NY to Charles A. and Mary Swart Sanbury, one of nine children; devoted mother of Gregory of Clarence, NY; survived by sister Doris Paul; also survived by many treasured relatives and friends. Marian attended rural schools in Busti and graduated from Jamestown High School with the class of 1939. On July 20, 1963 in Busti, she married the love of her life, Charles Potter Mowatt, who died June 10, 2015. She was employed for more than 20 years by the Department of Environmental Conservation, and then by Web Machinery in Jamestown. After retirement, the Mowatts moved to the family farm near Franklinville, eventually settling in the Amherst area. Marian was an active and supporting member of Philomathic in Jamestown, Beta Lambda Chi in Busti, and the Center for Inquiry in Amherst. She was a founding member of the freethought group Friends of Robert Green Ingersoll. She volunteered for several organizations, including Meals on Wheels, Corning Hospital, and the New York Forest Owners Association. According to her wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral. Marian has generously donated her body to SUNYAB's Anatomical Gift Program for medical study and research.
