CRAWFORD, John Wm., Sr.

CRAWFORD - John Wm., Sr. Age 73, formerly of Hamburg, NY, passed away May 26, 2016 after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. A proud Army and New York Army
National Guard veteran, John devoted his civilian career to helping veterans obtain their education through the GI Bill, spending 23 years with the
Department of Veterans Affairs before becoming the veterans' coordinator at Erie Community College in Buffalo, NY. He also enjoyed his volunteer work with the South Towns Amateur Radio Society in Hamburg, NY, the AARP Driver Safety Program in western NY, and was a lifelong donor with the American Red Cross, giving 33 gallons in blood and platelet donations before his lung disease took hold. After retirement he moved with his wife to Danbury, NH, spending three years actively involved with the local library before settling in New York's Hudson Valley. Survived by his wife Deborah; son John Jr.; sister Patricia (Leonard) Karas; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and in-laws. Predeceased by his twin brother James D. (late Audrey) Crawford. Services at convenience of the family. Arrangements by SUTTON FUNERAL HOME, Highland, NY. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 East Ohio Street, Suite 304, Chicago, IL 60611.
