Olympic gold medal winner & WNY native Steve Mesler to host third annual Prep Talk Awards

In an Olympic year, an Olympic gold-medal winner and Western New York native will help celebrate this year's best of the best in high school sports.

Steve Mesler, a City Honors grad who won gold in the bobsled in 2010, will be the guest speaker for the 2016 Prep Talk Awards on Wednesday, June 15 at the Hyatt Regency Buffalo Hotel and Conference Center.

Mesler was No. 10 in The Buffalo News' "Buffalo's Best" series, which ranked the all-time 10 best male and female athletes from Western New York.

Mesler follows former Buffalo Bills Andre Reed and Steve Tasker, who was last year's speaker, as our special event's special guest.

The Prep Talk Awards will honor the best in high school sports, including Prep Talk Players of the Year in every sport, the All-Western New York first teams in football and basketball, and overall winners among athletes, coaches, teams and athletic programs. There are also very special honors, including the [BN]spired Award.

The Prep Talk Players of the Year will be announced in the weeks leading up to the event.

The event will be hosted by Buffalo News Sports Editor Lisa Wilson and Deputy Sports Editor Keith McShea as well as radio personalities Janet Snyder and Nicholas Picholas. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m., doors open at 5:30 p.m. Reserve your tickets by contacting Lisa Cislo, 716-849-5522 or lcislo@buffnews.com.
