Niagara County Jail inmate admits to assaulting fellow prisoner

LOCKPORT – A City of Tonawanda man serving time on an assault misdemeanor in Niagara County Jail pleaded guilty to a felony Friday for assaulting a fellow inmate.

Michael J. Bower, 19, of Harriet Street, admitted to a reduced charge of attempted second-degree assault and could draw a state prison term of up to four years when he returns before State Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr. on Aug. 1.

Jail officials said Bower’s sentence on the earlier assault case runs out in October. The attack on inmate Johann Hiram occurred April 18 and did not involve any weapons, Assistant District Attorney John P. Granchelli said.
