Founding Fathers wins Esquire's affection

Humble, historic Founding Fathers Pub often escapes notice locally because it feels like it's been at 75 Edward St. forever, doesn't boast a website or active Facebook page, and seemingly loves to fly under the radar.

National coverage can remind us to cherish something we've come to take for granted, as the patriotic bar that celebrates U.S. presidential history was selected to Esquire's "Best Bars in America" list for 2016.

Here's Esquire Drinks Correspondent David Wondrich's short description of what makes Founding Fathers stick out to him: "Occupying an 1870s brick livery stable in a handsome old-house part of town, it's draped in flags, paneled in plaques and prints, and strewn with presidential kickshaws."

The Edward Street bar, known also for its popular trivia night and complimentary chips, cheese dip and salsa, isn't featured in a major list for the first time. Back in February 2015, BuzzFeed included Founding Fathers in its "19 Bars in America You Should Drink at Before You Die."
