Isaiah McDuffie plans to attend a college in the Atlantic Coast Conference but will now attend Boston College instead of Syracuse.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound McDuffie made the announcement on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon after informing the masses late Tuesday that he had changed his mind about attending Syracuse, which fired head coach Scott Shafer at the end of last season. Shafer had planned to build a defense with McDuffie as a centerpiece, according to Bennett coach Steve McDuffie, Isaiah’s father.
“It was a better opportunity,” Isaiah said in a tweet as to why he opted for BC over SU. “I love the staff.”
Even though McDuffie verballed to Syracuse last July, that didn’t stop others from continuing to court him. Besides BC, Wake Forest, Maryland and Connecticut made offers, according to 247Sports.com.
McDuffie, one of the top linebacker prospects in the nation, is the second prospect to decommit from Syracuse since the coaching change, as new coach Dino Babers finds recruits to fit his schemes.
