VA medical centers in Buffalo, Batavia set Memorial Day programs

Two Memorial Day celebrations, one in advance on Thursday at the Buffalo VA Medical Center, the other Monday at the Batavia VA Medical Center, are open to the public.

At 2 p.m. Thursday in Freedom Hall, Room 301, at the Buffalo VA, 3495 Bailey Ave., Billy Mariani, a 2003 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and a combat veteran who served as a captain, will be the keynote speaker. Mariana works as attorney for M&T Bank.

In addition, family members of World War II Army Air Corps 2nd Lt. Daniel B. Nazzarett will tell the story of how the pilot was killed in action during a dogfight over the Netherlands and what became of his remains.

There will be a Memorial Day ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Monday by the flag pole on the grounds of the Batavia VA, 222 Richmond Ave.
