WHEATFIELD – A Niagara Falls man is in critical condition Tuesday morning after he and another man were ejected during a rollover crash on Mapleton Road, according to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.
A police chase that started in Niagara Falls and continued through the Town of Niagara ended when the vehicle left Mapleton off the north side and rolled several times, the sheriff’s office said. The crash was reported at 4:52 a.m.
Freddie Kennedy, 33, is listed in critical condition in Erie County Medical Center. Luther Douglas, 30, is in stable condition, also at ECMC.
Niagara Falls police ended pursuit of the vehicle and Town of Niagara picked up the chase on Packard Road as the vehicle continued east on Lockport Road. Sheriff’s deputies joined in the pursuit on Lockport Road and Town of Niagara Police communicated to dispatchers that they planned to cut off pursuit.
Town of Niagara officers then encountered the wreckage on Mapleton, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s Accident Investigation Unit is reconstructing the crash and the investigation is continuing.
Some roads in the area were closed for several hours, including Lockport Road between Shawnee and Baer roads, and Mapleton Road between Shawnee and Lockport. A small section of Shawnee Road between Lockport and Mapleton also was closed to traffic.
