Where we live: Amherst

More than 15 children’s rides are featured in the first-ever Williamsville Spring Fair which ends Sunday at South Long Street Park.

The free carnival, open Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. is co-sponsored by the village, along with Midway Rides of Utica and the Western New York Railway Society. In addition to the rides, traditional fair foods will be sold at the family friendly event aimed at drawing awareness to the South Long Street area.

South Long Street is being redesigned as a walkable neighborhood with small shops and townhouses.

Proceeds from the rides will benefit the Railway Society, which manages the Lehigh Valley Train Depot on the carnival site.

This week:

• The Williamsville School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the district office boardroom, 105 Casey Road. The board’s Audit Committee will meet beforehand at 6 p.m.

• Amherst Central High School’s premier musical entities – its concert band, concert orchestra and concert choir – will each perform during a program set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday in high school auditorium. The high school is located at 4301 Main St.
