With sun and rising temperatures in the weather forecast, members of the Blasdell Village Board had summer on their minds during last week’s meeting.
“Preparations for summer are well underway,” Village Administrator Janet L. Plarr said Wednesday.
She said the Department of Public Works has been working hard to get the parks ready. And this year, the village is adding a pit for gaga ball, a game using foam balls, similar to dodgeball, in which players are supposed to hit their opponents below the knees.
As the summer months come, the time of Village Board meetings also change, and the board meets once a month. In June, July and August, the meetings will begin at 6 p.m. Part of the reason is that the village is set to hold its 26th annual weekly summer concert series, and each concert – held at JFK Playground – begins at 6:30.
The season’s first concert, featuring Laughing Bandit, will be held on the same night as the Village Board’s June 15 meeting.
In other business, Mayor Michael R. Petrie said the annual Memorial Day weekend parade is scheduled for next Sunday. “Lineup is at 12:30 p.m., and we start at 1 p.m.,” Petrie said.
The parade will start at Fireman’s Field on Lake Avenue, go east on Lake and south on Salisbury Avenue before ending with a ceremony at the former Blasdell Public Library.
