West Seneca will mark Memorial Day with a pair of events next weekend.
On Saturday, West Seneca American Legion Post 735 and the American Legion Riders are sponsoring their 10th annual Motorcycle Dice Run to raise money and awareness for homeless veterans in Western New York.
The start and finish will be at Post 735, 35 Legion Parkway. Registration begins at 10 a.m., kickstands up at noon. The ride will make stops at the Boston Amvets Post, Concord Legion, Gowanda Legion and Eden Legion, then return to Post 735. The cost is $15 per driver, $10 for passengers and non-riders. The price includes coffee and donuts in the morning, and all you can eat hot dogs, hamburgers, and an Italian sausage with one free beverage. Entertainment will be provided by the rock band “Alibi Pass.” Basket auctions and 50/50 drawings will also be held. For more information, contact Ron Kelly at 716-983-5342.
Then on Monday, the Annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony sponsored by the West Seneca Veterans Committee will take place. Parade marchers will step-off from Southgate Plaza, near Evans National Bank, at 10:30 a.m. and march north up Union Road to the Vietnam Memorial, in front of the West Seneca Town Library.
A ceremony to honor all Americans who gave their lives to keep our nation free will follow. The member units of the West Seneca Veterans Committee will place American Flags alongside a casket symbolizing America’s war dead. The committee includes American Legion Post 735, Marine Corp. League Detachment 239, Veterans of Foreign Wars VFW Post 8113, Navy Seabee Veterans of America Island X-5, AMVETS Post 8113, Harvey D. Morin VFW Post 2940 and the 82nd Airborne,
The public is invited to attend. Hot dogs and refreshments will follow at American Legion Post 735.
