LOCKPORT – The annual Sweet Chalk Festival, featuring chalk art on the pavement of the municipal parking lot at Main and Pine streets, was approved this week by the Common Council.
The event will be held the weekend of July 16-17.
Lockside Art Center, which is across the street from the parking lot, is recruiting artists. Accepted artists are assigned a square of up to 9 by 12 feet. There is no theme, but no nudes, politics or religion are allowed, unless one is recreating Renaissance art. There are a number of prizes available and a stipend for accepted artists.
Those new to chalk art may want to attend a workshop with award winning chalk artist Joe Mahley on July 2 or 3.
