Two men charged with panhandling in University District

Two men panhandling outside two businesses in the University District were arrested Tuesday after ignoring repeated requests to leave the stores’ property, police said.

Willie L. Bell, 43, of Custer Street is a regular panhandler inside and outside of 7-Eleven, 3211 Main St., police said. Bell was a “constant nuisance” to patrons and was told numerous times not to be on store property, police said.

Bell was arrested about 10 a.m. Tuesday and charged with soliciting. After his arrest, police said Bell began to violently bang his head and body in the rear of the patrol car.

Shortly after noon at Tim Horton’s, 3470 Main, police arrested Arthur Zalikowski, 60, and accused him of soliciting. The coffee shop manager told police Zalikowski begs and panhandles repeatedly for money and food.
