Rescuers rappel down gorge wall to retrieve climber in distress

NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. – Emergency responders rescued a man Tuesday night who got stuck after partially climbing the wall of the Niagara Gorge.

Rescuers rappelled down the gorge wall near Thompson’s Point, south of the Whirlpool Rapids Bridge, after receiving a call at about 7:25 p.m. about a distraught male, the Niagara Parks Police said.

The man, who was not identified, was transported to a hospital for a mental health assessment. He was not injured.

The Niagara Regional Police, Niagara Falls Fire Department and Niagara EMS assisted in the rescue.
