Damage climbs to $45,000 in house fire traced to couch

One resident was treated for burns after a couch fire broke out early Wednesday afternoon in a two-story house in the Fillmore-Leroy neighborhood, the Buffalo Fire Department alarm office reported.

The fire in the front room of the second floor at 42 Brewster St. was reported around 1:20 p.m., fire dispatchers said.

Fire investigators have not determined the cause of the fire, which caused an estimated $30,000 in damage to the two-family dwelling and $15,000 to ontents.

The Red Cross was assisting five adults, officials said.
