The SPCA Serving Erie County has been at its current home on Ensminger Road in the Town of Tonawanda for more than half a century.
Closets have been converted into office space. The auditorium houses some departments and offices. And even the ladies’ rest room has animal cages.
That’s why the SPCA is building its new home at 300 Harlem Road, West Seneca, where officials late Monday morning held the official ground-breaking ceremony, although construction already started last month. The construction is expected to take about a year.
The local SPCA has launched its “Raise the Roof” capital campaign to raise $8 million through the support of its friends, foundations and corporate partners.
SPCA officials pointed out that their organization is 100 percent privately funded, receiving no government funding or taxpayer dollars.
