Roswell Park Cancer Institute on Monday held the grand opening for its $50.5 million Scott Bieler Clinical Sciences Center. Clinical centers and the patients they serve will begin moving into the 11-story building next week, followed by hospital faculty and administrators over the next month. It is the first new clinical building the hospital has opened since 1998. A fundraising campaign co-chaired by Bieler and Donna Gioia brought in $32.7 million, while the federal New Markets Tax Credit program provided key funding.
The building was designed, with input from patients, to offer larger, brighter treatment spaces and impressive views of the Buffalo cityscape. Artworks made by local artists, some donated by the artists themselves and some purchased through donations, fill the building.
