Five local educators are among the 290 music teachers who have been named quarterfinalists for the music educator award presented by the Recording Academy and the Grammy Foundation.
The award was established to recognize current educators who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools, according to the foundation.
They include John Blickwedehl of West Seneca West Senior High School, Kristen Hill of Niagara Catholic Junior/Senior High School, Donna Kerr of City Honors School, Bradley Meholick of Le Roy Junior/Senior High School and James Runfola of Erie Community College.
The winner will be selected from among 10 finalists and recognized for his or her impact on students’ lives, and will attend next year’s Grammys show. Semifinalists will be announced in September.
