Sister Mary Roseanne Rapnicki, longtime educator

Sister Mary Roseanne Rapnicki, an educator for 58 years, died Saturday in Immaculate Conception Convent, Hamburg. She was 82.

Born Anna Mary Rapnicki in Detroit, she entered the aspirancy of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph in 1947. In 1952, she became a postulant and on July 22, 1956, she professed her final vows. Her three sisters also became Franciscan sisters.

She received a bachelor’s degree in education from Cardinal Stritch College in Milwaukee and a master’s degree in education from Marygrove College in Detroit.

Sister Roseanne taught at St. Joseph’s School in North Tonawanda, Corpus Christi School in Buffalo and at elementary schools in Auburn, Milwaukee and Kenosha, Wis. In 2014, she returned to the mother house in Hamburg and joined the sisters in the Colette Hilbert Care Community.

Survivors include two sisters, Sister Bertina and Sister David.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Immaculate Conception Convent Chapel, 5229 South Park Ave., Hamburg.
