The board of directors of Visit Buffalo Niagara elected Jonathan A. Dandes chair. Other officers: chair elect, Mary F. Roberts; treasurer, Cindy Abbott-Letro, and secretary, Toni Vazquez. Also, the board gained three new members: Brent Rossi, executive vice president of marketing and brand strategy for Pegula Sports and Entertainment, and Huseyin Taran, general manager of the Buffalo Marriott HarborCenter. County Executive Mark Poloncarz appointed Bridget Niland, Daemen College’s director of athletics.


The Greater Niagara Frontier Council awarded the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver Award to: Steven Molik, a worker’s compensation judge for New York State; John G. Schmidt Jr., a partner with Phillips Lytle; and Brian R. Welsh of Brian R. Welsh. The Silver Beaver Award is the highest distinguished service award a local Council of the Boy Scouts of America can award. Molik is the Onondaga District chair for the Greater Niagara Frontier Council. Schmidt has been on the Greater Niagara Frontier Council BSA board of directors since 2006, serving as president from 2014 to 2015. Welsh is an active leader with the Boy Scouts of America, where he currently sits on the Executive Board of its Greater Niagara Frontier Council.


Scott E. Friedman, chairman and CEO at Lippes Mathias Wexler Friedman, recently co-wrote an article titled, “The Role of Positive Psychology in the Modern Medical Practice,” which was published in the March/April 2016 edition of the Journal of Medical Practice Management. The article was co-written with Dr. Neil Baum, a urologist based in New Orleans and associate clinical professor of urology at Tulane Medical School and Louisiana State University Medical School.
