First Niagara gives $1 million for mentoring programs

First Niagara Financial Group announced $1 million in grants to support youth mentoring programs at 37 nonprofits across its four-state territory.

Nine Buffalo-area groups will receive a total of $165,000: Be A Friend Program Inc., Boys & Girls Clubs of Buffalo, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northtowns, Buffalo Prep, Compeer of Greater Buffalo, Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection, Junior Achievement of Western New York, Seneca Street Community Development Corp., Youth Mentoring Service of Niagara County.

The grants were made as part of First Niagara’s “Mentoring Matters” program. The bank has provided more than $8.33 million toward mentoring programs over the past nine years.
