Board President of 9 Mile Island Youth Camp. Chairman of the Board of Love Canal Medical Fund. Volunteer at Palace Theatre in Lockport. Former assistant scout master with Boy Scout Troop 47 in Pendleton. Serve as an usher at The Chapel at CrossPoint.

Please tell us about yourself:

Married for 27 years to Joanne Zimmerman, a teacher in the Niagara Falls City School District. We have two children. Our daughter Liesel is a 2012 graduate of Starpoint, 2015 graduate of SUNY Geneseo, and has just completed her first year at William & Mary School of Law. Our son, Duffy will be graduating this year from Starpoint and will be heading to Stony Brook in the fall to pursue a career in medicine. He just recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

Please describe the top issues facing your school district and how you would address them as a school board member:

Starpoint has been blessed with an outstanding administration, incredibly dedicated teachers, and incomparable staff. In spite of financial impediments from Albany, the district has continued to grow and excel. I will continue to assist in any way that I can to move Starpoint ever higher.

Do you think public education in New York is headed in the right direction? No

Please explain why, in 100 words or less:

I say no, but I am hopeful that our new Commissioner of Education will change the course that was laid down by Governor Cuomo and the former commissioner. Reworking some of the inequities of common core and the associated testing.
