Occupants escape fire that heavily damages Hartland house

HARTLAND – A house sustained extensive damage from a fire early Sunday morning, but three occupants and most of their pets escaped safely.

Several 911 calls were made about 2:56 a.m. to report the fire at 9323 Ridge Road. Flames were shooting through the roof in the rear of the house when Niagara County sheriff’s deputies arrived, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

A resident told authorities the fire is believed to have started in a second floor rear bedroom. Three occupants and two pets were evacuated safely, but a cat was possibly lost in the fire.

Hartland, Middleport, Gasport and Barker fire companies responded to the blaze, which caused extensive damage. The dollar amount of damage was not immediately available.
