Business People for the week of May 8

Independent Health appointed James Walleshauser senior vice president, health care operations. Walleshauser joined Independent Health in 2008. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and his MBA from the University at Buffalo.

William Mattar named F. David Rusin attorney manager, Scott A. Bylewski manager, counsel and Shirley A. Kelly general manager. Rusin graduated from the University at Buffalo and received his JD from the University of Dayton School of Law. Bylewski received his bachelor’s degree and MBA from the University at Buffalo and his JD from the UB School of Law. Kelly, with more than 40 years experience in the legal field, has been with the firm for more than 20 years.

Erie County Medical Center appointed Dr. Michael R. Cummings associate medical director, behavioral health services. Cummings is vice chairman of the Division of Community Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry at the University at Buffalo, and the program director of Pediatric Behavioral Health for Women & Children’s Hospital. Cummings graduated from Cornell University and completed medical school and residencies at UB.

M&T Bank promoted to Marie King to group vice president, corporate secretary. King, with the bank for 30 years, is a University at Buffalo graduate and also graduated from the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking.

CCS Healthcare welcomed Dr. Michael Slater, Dr. Edward Ventresca and Dr. Mohammad A. Khan to its medical practice. Slater received his medical degree from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and his undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago. Ventresca attended Niagara University and received the degree of doctor of medicine from the University of Rome, Italy. He completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey at Newark. Kahn completed his residency in primary care and internal medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He later pursued a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine.

Atwal Eye Care appointed Dr. Sara Sirkin an associate. Sirkin has practiced in the Buffalo area since 1972 and also served as a clinical assistant professor at the University at Buffalo, Department of Ophthalmology. She received her medical degree from UB and completed her internship at Millard Fillmore Hospital and her residency at E.J. Meyer Memorial Hospital.

The United Way of Buffalo and Erie County appointed Suzanna Challen director of research and public policy, and Holly Hutchinson American Apprenticeship program resource coordinator. Challen is a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology. Hutchinson is a graduate of Metropolitan State College of Denver.

Andreozzi Bluestein Weber Brown named Ruth Wiseman of counsel. Wiseman, who was on the disciplinary board of the Supreme Court of the State of Pennsylvania, received her JD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and her bachelor’s degree from SUNY Oswego.

R. A. Mercer & Co. named Alicia M. Porack and Kira Lilley staff accountants. Porack holds a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Fredonia. Lilley earned an associate degree from Genesee Community College.

Cell Phone Repair of Tonawanda promoted Joseph Reed to store manager and William Victor to assistant store manager. Reed was formerly sales manager at CPR. Victor holds a bachelor’s degree from Niagara University.

AAA Western and Central New York appointed Stephen Seitz AAA insurance sales manager. Seitz, who owned a real estate business and founded an insurance agency, is also a councilman for the Town of Shelby.
