Poor Reid Ferguson.
The Buffalo Bills' rookie long snapper probably didn't expect to see his name in the news Friday. The undrafted free agent from LSU completed his first rookie minicamp practice in anonymity – which comes with the position.
Until coach Rex Ryan's press conference, that is.
Ryan was asked how Ferguson performed – in jest, one can assume – when the coach had this classic exchange.
Ryan: "Excuse me?"
Reporter: "The long snapper. LSU."
"Ryan: "Oh, jeez. It's the long snapper, guys. Hell, I'm just trying to figure out these names, too."
With 31 players in camp, Ryan can be forgiven for not knowing all of their names. The harsh reality is no more than a few will become meaningful contributors.
"You're going to have one of those brain freeze things," Ryan said. "If I have to repeat it, like, twice, then you know I have no idea who you're talking about."
C'mon Rex, you can't really do your long snapper like that, can you?
"He did well," the coach said, with some prodding. "I thought he had a super day."
Here now would be a time to point out that the written word simply does not capture the essence of Ryan's comments. So without further ado, here's a look at the coach's reaction.
