Elephant Run will begin Sunday morning

The 10th annual Elephant Run, which raises scholarship money in the memory of heart transplant recipient Marcena Lozano, will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Marcy Casino on Hoyt Lake in Delaware Park. Registration begins at 8 a.m.

The event includes a four-mile run and walk, a one-mile fun run and walk, and a Little Peanuts Elephant Stampede, 50- and 100-yard dashes for youngsters. Among the awards will be honors for the top three men and women in all age groups and the top male and female organ transplant recipients. Entry fees are $20 and $25 for the four-mile run, $15 for the fun run. The post-race party is free for participants and children, $5 for non-runners.

Proceeds benefit the Marcena Lozano Donate Life Scholarship Fund, which supports college education for organ transplant recipients. Lozano, who twice underwent heart transplants, was majoring in social work at Buffalo State College when she died in 2005 at age 25. For more information, visit marcenasmiracles.com.
