I have been a middle school Math teacher in the North Tonawanda City School District for over 15 years. I enjoy attending my daughters school PTO meetings, and this past season I was a volunteer assistant coach for a Southline Co-Ed Basketball team. I am also a 10 year member of the Sons of the American Legion.
Number of years you have lived in the school district: 9
Have you run for office before? No
Please tell us about yourself:
I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 15 years and we have three daughters at home; two current little wildcats and our youngest will start Pre-K next year. I enjoy coaching, camping and spending time with my family.
Please describe the top issues facing your school district and how you would address them as a school board member.:
With all of the pressure that has been put on teachers, students, and school districts in the last few years, we have lost the vision of what is most important in a school and that is the children. With such emphasis put on Math and ELA, we are robbing our children of a well rounded education. To address this problem I will advocate to get rid of high stakes testing and let teachers do what they do best -- teach.
Do you think public education in New York is headed in the right direction? No
Please explain why, in 100 words or less:
What was once a non-profit educational system has increasingly fallen under the influence of big business and financial strain. Our children's welfare and needs have suffered due to these trade offs. School has become less enjoyable and more stressful than ever before. Trust in teachers to do what they have always done: enrich, enliven, and educate!
