Orchard Park police on Tuesday afternoon arrested a burglary suspect who was fleeing police in his socks after he lost his sneakers running through a muddy swamp.
A Stonehenge Drive resident told police she came home at about 4:40 p.m. and found a man leaving her house through her garage while carrying her bicycle. The woman said she pursued the suspect and called police, who caught up with him as he fled into a wooded area south of the home.
The suspect kept running despite his shoes getting stuck in the mud, fleeing through several backyards and neighborhoods until he was found in the area of Birdsong Parkway, Orchard Park police said. He had a brief altercation with officers and was taken into custody.
Police charged Evan E. Lynch, 21, of Orchard Park, with second-degree burglary, criminal possession of stolen property, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration. Police said they also found cocaine on him and he was also charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Lynch was arraigned in Orchard Park Town Court and transferred to the Erie County Holding Center after he was unable to post bail.
