Friends of Allegany organizing park cleanup

Friends of Allegany, a volunteer organization dedicated to maintaining Allegany State Park, will lead the fifth “I Love My Park,” cleanup starting at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Quaker Run area.

Volunteer projects will focus mainly on cabin trail clean up, gardening, painting and minor repairs.

Last spring, 6,500 volunteers took part in more than 200 projects at 95 parks throughout the state. In all, 16,000 hours of service were volunteered.

Registration starts at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Quaker Picnic Shelter. The work period extends from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Volunteers are asked to: bring a lunch, dress for the weather and be prepared to get dirty.
