Patrons of some Regal cinemas will shortly have king-sized recliners.
The newer, roomier and comfier seats are coming first to the Regal Cinema’s Walden Galleria location. All the existing seats are being removed, Regal executives announced, to make way for the new.
It’s the latest trend in movie theaters, to invite their customers to kick back. Last fall, Dipson Theatres jumped on board the trend, adding reclining seats to the Amherst Theatre and the McKinley 6. The AMC Maple Ridge in Amherst started the trend locally in 2014.
Regal has confidence that its supersized new seats will be received well in Buffalo, the birthplace of the Barcalounger. The theater in the Walden Galleria will be displaying the new seats in the lobby while construction is in progress. Construction will be gradual so that the theater may remain open throughout the process.
The new seats feature padded footrests and allow for various positions. By October, all area Regal cinemas are expected to have the amenity.
“Once you take the luxurious new recliners for a test drive, you’ll agree that the Regal King Size Recliner is a star attraction,” Ken Thewes, chief marketing officer at Regal Entertainment Group, said in a news release announcing the switch. “The spaciousness and comfort help you lose yourself in the story and become more immersed in the movie. This combination of comfort and a pristine presentation make for a remarkable trip to the movies.”
