Evans police make quick arrest after robber hits Key Bank branch

Evans police arrested a suspected bank robber outside the Key Bank on Erie Road just after they were alerted by a silent alarm that went off at 12:30 p.m. Monday, authorities said.

The suspect has been identified as Patrick Demmerley, 24, of Church Road, Angola.

The robber handed a teller a note demanding money.

Evans Police Officer Michael Kauzala arrived at the scene and took the man into custody with assistance from Brant Police Chief Donald Hepkins and part-time Brant Police Officer Rick Lopez, who were nearby.

Bank workers were commended for their quick action in letting police know that the robber had left the building and that there was no hostage situation.

State Police also provided back-up in responding to the call.
