Guindon tops Voytovich in Greater Buffalo Bowlers Tour

Veteran Dave Guindon of West Seneca, a former Obenauer Masters champion, defeated Erie Community College star Dana Voytovich of Cheektowaga, 221-202, in the championship match Sunday to win the sixth stop on the Greater Buffalo Bowlers Tour at Island Lanes.

Voytovich, the singles, all-events winner and MVP of the NJCAA Tournament here in February, led the qualifying with 825. After defeating Kevin Bienko in the first round, he had to survive a rolloff against John Masiello to advance. Voytovich and Masiello tied at 206 after 10 frames. Voytovich won the two-frame rolloff, 60-28, then went into top Mike Firzak, 237-163 to advance to the final.

Guindon, who won the first stop on the GBT in January, triumphed over Jim Fox, Rochester star Mike Rose Jr. (257-166) and Tom Sorce of Blasdell to get to the championship match.

The Tour’s Tournament of Champions will be next Sunday at Brad Angelo Lanes in Lockport.
