The Derby man who died Saturday in a two-vehicle crash on Route 20 in the Town of Hamburg has been identified as 58-year-old Joseph A. Slisz III, Town of Hamburg police reported Monday morning.
An autopsy was to be conducted later Monday, Capt. Kevin A. Trask said, as investigators try to determine whether Slisz suffered some kind of medical emergency before the crash.
Slisz’s car was westbound in the 6500 block of Route 20 about 1:35 p.m. when it crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a motorcycle headed east, police said. The vehicle left the road, struck a tree and rolled before coming to a stop off the road. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while a passenger in the vehicle was flown by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center.
The motorcyclist suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Mercy Ambulatory Care Center, police said.
Police were assisted by Lakeview, Lakeshore and Woodlawn firefighters, as well as Rural/Metro ambulance and Mercy Flight.
