ZELAWSKI, Richard G.

ZELAWSKI - Richard G. Age 90, of Clarence, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday April 22, 2016 at Brothers of Mercy Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born January 14, 1926 in Sosnowiec, Poland, a son of the late John and Helen Zelawski. Mr. Zelawski was a proud Veteran having served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, he was employed by Bell Aerospace as a Rocket Technology Supervisor. This would span a career of over 37 years until his retirement in 1987. In 1961 he was one of the founders of B.O.Y.S. Baseball League in Lackawanna, NY which is in existence today. He enjoyed golfing with his Bell Aerospace buddies ans was a rosarian with the Erie County Rose Society. Mr. Zelawski was also a member of the Clarence Senior Center. Survivors include his wife of more than 69 years, Josephine Lelito Zelawski of Clarence. Children, Roberta (Robert) Muir of Tampa, FL, Melanie (George Jr.) Coates of Grand Island, Richard G. (Susanne) Zelawski Jr. of Clarence and Eugene (Nancy) Zelawski of Carrollton, TX. Grandchildren, Shannon (Riley) Sheckler, Michell Zelawski Bradford, Meagan (Matt) Whitaker, Christina (Rich) Norris, Mallory Zelawski, Alex Coates and Zachary Zelawski. Sister, Elizabeth Wheeler of Cheektowaga. He was the grandfather of the late Madelyn Coated. A celebration of his life will be held on June 18th.
