Water mains in Lackawanna, Amherst, Cheektowaga and Orchard Park will be flushed starting Monday.
Residents may experience low pressure or discolored water during the process, which will occur on weekdays and continue through the fall, the Erie County Water Authority announced.
If discoloration occurs, customers should run the cold water tap at the lowest point in their residence or business for a few minutes or until the water runs clear. Clothing should not be laundered if water is discolored as staining may result.
Water quality is safe to drink during the flushing procedure, according to the authority.
The work is part of maintenance by the authority to flush all dead-end mains, a process which helps reduce sediments and other solids which may be source of color, taste or odor problems. The areas where the work will be done excludes the Village of Orchard Park.
Anyone with questions should call the authority at 684-0900.
