If you’ve seen a Jeep Renegade commercial in the past year, then chances are you’ve already heard of X Ambassadors. The band’s breakout hit “Renegades” is featured in the commercial and the song continues to push the quartet into the limelight.
The group – vocalist Sam Harris, his brother Casey Harris on keyboard, Noah Feldshuh on guitar and Adam Levin on drums – comes from just up the road in Ithaca. Discovered by Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds, who released the band’s debut record “VHS” in 2015, X Ambassadors has toured with Imagine Dragons as well as top-tier acts like Panic! At the Disco and Jimmy Eat World.
The band’s sound is as unpredictable as its hit single’s title suggests, with a blending of acoustic rock, vocal pop and good old-fashioned stomp along rock ’n’ roll. Vocalist Sam Harris can take his voice from stratospheric heights on songs like “Unsteady” to mixing it up in bluesy tones with Jamie N. Commons on “Jungle.” While the group’s live energy and unique variety of styles has certainly contributed to its rise, perseverance is perhaps their most important asset. Keyboardist Casey Harris has been blind since birth, but it doesn’t stop him or the band from putting on a fantastic live show and crafting infectious pop rock hits. Always the renegades, X Ambassadors will play May 3 in the Town Ballroom (681 Main St.) along with Savoir Adore and Sara Hartman. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $21 (box office, ticketfly.com).
