‘GiveBack Day’ to raise funds for local charities

It’s called GiveBack Day, a different kind of fundraiser being held Saturday, allowing buyers to donate 10 percent of their jewelry purchases to a charity of their choice while also spreading a message about acceptance and kindness toward others.

The initiative, a joint venture of Embrace the Difference jewelry and Reeds Jenss, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Reeds Jenss store at 4001 Maple Road, Amherst. The event will feature free food and appearances by Sabretooth and several local celebrities, while representatives from some local charities will be there to explain their agency’s mission.

Embrace the Difference was created five years ago by Robyn Zimmer, in honor of her special-needs son. Each piece of jewelry includes the brand’s signature symbol of interlocking circles linked by a square. The message is simple, that “we are all connected no matter what differences we may have,” according to the Embrace the Difference website.

More than 100 charities are being helped, including everything from the local Alzheimer’s Association to the WNY Ovarian Cancer Project.

While the event will be held at the Reeds Jenss store in Amherst, the 10 percent charity deal also will be offered at its other stores in Orchard Park and Niagara Falls.
