Falls man heads to prison for possession of illegal gun

LOCKPORT – Five years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision was the sentence Wednesday from Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon for a Niagara Falls man caught with an illegal handgun.

Third-time felon Cody A. Rolfe, 33, of Mackenna Avenue, had pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree criminal possession of a weapon for having the gun in a bag April 2, 2015, when the sport utility vehicle he was driving was pulled over for running a red light at Niagara Falls Boulevard and 80th Street in the Falls.

Rolfe’s earlier convictions were for burglaries in the Falls in 2002, for which he served six years in prison.

This time, Sheldon recommended that Rolfe be sent to Marcy Correctional Facility if possible.

“It’s more like a college dormitory than a prison, and they do a great job on both substance abuse and mental health issues,” Sheldon said.
