Some basics you need to know about the 2016 NFL Draft – aka the league’s 81st annual player selection meeting – and the Buffalo Bills’ part in it:
When: Thursday, 8 p.m. (Round One; 10-minute limit per pick), Friday, 7 p.m. (Rounds 2-3; seven-minute limit per pick in Round 2, five-minute limit per pick in Round 3), Saturday, noon (Rounds 4-7; five-minute limit per pick in Rounds 4-6; four-minute limit per pick in Round 7).
Where: Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre. Each team’s selections are made at its own headquarters and relayed via a direct voice-line connection to a club representative in Chicago who fills out the pick card that is submitted to the NFL.
Television: NFL Network and ESPN/ESPN2.
Radio: SiriusXM NFL Radio.
Total selections for all 32 teams: 253, including 33 compensatory picks awarded 13 teams based on a formula of free-agent losses.
Total Bills selections: Eight.
They have one in the first round (19th overall), one in the second (49th), one in the third (80th), two in the fourth (117th and 139th), one in the fifth (156th), and two in the sixth (192nd and 218th).
Estimated time of Bills’ first-round pick: Provided they don’t trade up or down, figure on the choice to be made in the vicinity of 10:15 p.m.
Bills’ needs: Defensive line, linebacker, wide receiver, offensive tackle, safety, quarterback.
Bills’ special draft event: Team will host a VIP gathering Saturday at (716) Food and Sport, where Bills coaches and the Bills’ first-round pick will announce selections in Rounds 4-5 that will be streamed live on the team’s website, with select picks being broadcast from the event on various NFL media platforms.
