Two-alarm fire in South Buffalo damages five buildings

A two-alarm fire at a vacant building on South Park Avenue on Tuesday morning spread to four other South Buffalo buildings.

The blaze began at 1628 South Park Ave. and was reported at 10:46 a.m. It spread to a vacant building at 1632 South Park, the Bread of Life church at 1638 South Park, as well as 7 and 11 Remoleno Street, according to the Buffalo Fire Department alarm office.

Because of the intensity of the fire, firefighters had to tackle it from a distance, using aerial lines on the roof.

Damage estimates were as follows: $40,000 to 1628 South Park; $25,000 to 1632 South Park; $20,000 to 1638 South Park; $105,000 to 11 Remoleno and $5,000 to 7 Remoleno.

The Red Cross assisted three adults and five children after the fire destroyed the house at 11 Remoleno St.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
