Falls man denies slicing copper pipes at office of “Dr. Feel Good”

LOCKPORT – A man whom Niagara Falls police allegedly caught in the basement of a former doctor’s office beside a stack of freshly cut copper pipes pleaded not guilty to an indictment Tuesday in Niagara County Court.

Edmund F. Merchant Jr., 28, of Seventh Street in the Falls, is charged with burglary and criminal mischief, both in the third degree.

On Dec. 5, he was arrested at the Main Street building that formerly housed the office of Dr. Pravin V. Mehta, the physician called “Dr. Feel Good” for the indiscriminate distribution of opiates that led to a federal drug conviction and a two-year prison sentence with a $500,000 fine.
