‘Day of the Child’ to be observed Friday

The Hispanic Heritage Council of Western New York will observe “El Día del Niño,” or “Day of the Child,” from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at School 3 D’Youville Porter Campus School, 255 Porter Ave.

Activities will focus on literacy, nutrition and character. In addition, more than 35 community leaders and government officials will read with the schoolchildren in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.

“El Día del Niño” originated in Mexico in 1925 and is celebrated each year on or near April 30 by many Latin American countries and in many cities across the Americas, the organizers said.
