$2.3 million going unclaimed by Univera parent company members

The parent company of Univera Healthcare said current and former members have failed to claim $2.3 million in checks issued in 2012 by the health insurer and its Amherst-based subsidiary. That total includes $355,000 in checks left unclaimed by about 600 people and companies in Univera’s Western New York coverage area.

If the money isn’t claimed by the end of August, it will be handed over to New York State.

The list of people and companies with checks to claim is available at The uncashed checks cover money paid for claims or refunded premiums.

To claim a check before Aug. 31, current Univera members should call the customer service phone number on their member ID card. Former members, or those calling on behalf of the estate of a family member, should call (877) 242-9464.

The two other large local insurers also are reaching out to current and former members, as required by state regulators, about unclaimed funds from 2012.
