Two New York congressmen seeking more grants for first responders

Two Republican congressmen from opposite ends of New York appeared at the Depew Fire Hall Monday to seek increased first responder grant funding from the federal government.

Rep. Peter King of Long Island and Rep. Chris Collins of Clarence announced they have asked the House Appropriations Committee to provide additional funding for two grant programs that provide equipment and staff.

“As co-chair of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, I am proud to be a leading advocate for funding the needs of our fire service,” King said. “We must ensure that firefighters and first responders have the funding they need to continue protecting and serving our communities, and I am glad to partner with Congressman Collins in advocating for increased funding for these vital grant programs.”

The pair appeared with Depew firefighters and Scott Wegst, chief-elect of the Depew Fire Department.
