Tuesday dinner at the Chandelier Bar

Grappling with the fact our Vegas vacation was really over, we decided to reward ourselves two days into the work week by having dinner at the bar at Salvatore’s Italian Gardens. Just to keep that vacation feeling going, of course.

The newer Chandelier Bar was the subject of a recent Happy Hour (Fridays only), where I learned that Tuesdays, Salvatore’s serves $12 dinners (available only at the bar). Why not give it a try?

The bar is gorgeous, and the staff is on the ball. Of course a $12 meal meant I could splurge on a $12 specialty drink — a blackberry sour — which our lovely bartender whipped up in no time.

True to form, the Sig Other went the craft beer route — Southern Tier Brewing Company’s seasonal spring lager ($7).

The Chandelier Bar has its own special menu with lots of gastropub choices like specialty breads, appetizers, flatbreads, salads, sandwiches, burgers and even some entrees. (Look for my upcoming story in the May Food issue of Buffalo Magazine for the growing trend of eating at the bar).

But we were here for the $12 dinners. Five are offered: Chicken Francaise spaghetti, penne with meat sauce, stuffed eggplant with spaghetti, panko-crusted chicken salad and chicken parmesan arrabbiata.

We got the full treatment at the bar. Placemats, linen napkins, silverware and a nice, warm basket of bread with butter and tapenade. The kind you cannot stop eating.

While not huge, the dinners were the perfect size. The penne with meat sauce had nice chunks of meat and a healthy dose of cheese.

My chicken Parmesan (main photo) was a big piece of chicken on top of the pasta, and more cheese. The arrabbiata sauce was more like a chunky marinara. Not as spicy as I would have liked, but still really tasty. We cleaned our plates and were nicely full.

The ambiance was relaxed and quiet, and the bartender turned on hockey, basketball and baseball for us to watch. (Watching him work the remotes was entertaining enough.)

While we weren’t on vacation, for a couple hours it felt like we still were.
