As much as we love local restaurants we’d like to give a little love to our local chains that do have a place in the world.
For those who didn’t get enough to eat during Local Restaurant Week, be sure to mark April 28 for “Taste of Galleria: Around the World,” which takes place from 5 to 9 p.m.
“Weekday events are always a big push for us,” said Marissa Romano, marketing director at Walden Galleria. “We’ve brought in great new restaurants and we want our locals to enjoy all we have to offer. This is a nice way to explore our variety in one night.”
Plus the event includes a trivia component. The trivia contest concludes at the World of Beer for an “after party” where prizes will be awarded.
The concept is simple. Buy a passport (cash only) for $5 at Customer Service until 6:30 p.m. Included in the price is a beverage at World of Beer and a bar plate at Bravo! Cucina Italiana. Visit the participating restaurants to collect a stamp at the hostess desk. Gain a point for correctly answering a trivia question. “Travelers” who order a special menu option at each restaurant will be awarded an extra trivia question.
Get bonus points for checking in at Walden Galleria on the Yelp app. The code is offered with a check in.
Folks can work in teams, but only one prize will be awarded per team. Visit every restaurant and your total points will be doubled.
For those who don’t want to play trivia, the night is a great way to have fun simply eating and drinking at a bargain. (Hello, $5 Jumbo Pretzel Braid at Dave & Buster's and $4 Piehole Apple Pie Whiskey Cocktail Jack Astor’s.)
The “Around the World Theme” pairs sample dishes and drinks at each restaurant representing a country.
For example, Gordon Biersch will feature a German Beer Marzen for $3 and German Baby Brat for $4. Texas de Brazil will offer a $5 Brazilian Flank Steak with chimichurri drizzle and garlic mashed potatoes along with a $5 Caipirinha Cocktail. And The Melting Pot (France) offers a $5 Love Martini and chocolate covered strawberries for $1 each.
World of Beer will host the after-party starting at 8 p.m. Trivia cards will be collected until 8:30 p.m. (Romano and her team will be stationed beginning at 7:30 p.m.) Participants must be present to win.
“We hope the event is fun and filling,” Romano said. “We love to bring new things that engage our local customers. It’s also important to note that if parents want to participate, they can sign up for a Drop ‘n’ Shop at Billy Beez and have someone play with their kids while they enjoy the Taste of Galleria.”
