Pit bull that bit Cheektowaga boy to be in custody for one week

The pit bull terrier that bit off part of a 9-year-old boy’s finger in Cheektowaga Town Park on Wednesday night will be in the town dog warden’s custody for approximately one week, police said Monday.

The dog will go to a veterinarian at the end of the week to be checked out and receive updated shots, said Assistant Police Chief James J. Speyer Jr. The dog appears to be healthy, he added.

Meech Mills was holding onto the fence at the park basketball courts when the tan dog pulled its owner forward, lunged at him and bit off part of the finger.

The woman with the dog fled the park with it after the attack, according to the boy’s mother, Amy Prieur. But the dog was brought to police days later by the owner.

Doctors at Women & Children’s Hospital in Buffalo were unable to reattach the middle finger on Meech’s right hand, which was severed at the knuckle, Prieur said.
