Buffalo Medical Group doctors and staff have begun moving into a renovated office building in Amherst’s Centerpointe Corporate Park that the practice purchased last summer to consolidate some operations at its main Northtowns campus.
The region’s largest multispecialty physicians group is moving administrative functions, medical specialists and laboratory services into the four-story, 72,000-square-foot building at 325 Essjay Road.
Buffalo Medical Group, which previously occupied 22,000 square feet in the building, paid $8 million for the property in a sale that closed in August. The building is across a parking lot from one of the group’s anchor locations at 295 Essjay in the same office park.
The group is spending about $5 million on renovations to the building that include a new, more conveniently located covered entranceway for patients.
The first specialist who moved into the building, Dr. Kevin B. Kulick, a Kenmore dermatologist, moved in at the end of March, said Eileen A. Leary, the group’s chief operating officer.
By the end of June, administrative offices and a full-service lab from 6255 Sheridan Drive in Amherst and OB/GYN, dermatology and ophthalmology specialists from 6245 Sheridan all will move into 325 Essjay, Leary said. In total, 240 employees will work at 325 Essjay when it is fully occupied.
The Hartford insurance agency and a law firm have offices in the building, and Buffalo Medical Group is working with the businesses to find new office space to lease elsewhere , Leary said.
Buffalo Medical Group has more than 130 physicians and 500,000 annual patient visits with four anchor locations – the two Essjay buildings, one on High Street in Buffalo and one in Orchard Park – and 18 satellite sites.
